Are you unequally yoked?
2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
What does this mean for today’s and yesterday’s believer? The definition of yoked is to join, couple, link, or unite by means of binding. As an example, in times past two draft animals, horses, or oxen were bound together to pull a plow. Christian’s are not to be in any binding relationship with someone who is not a Christian. This goes for friendships, business acquaintances, co-workers, employees, family members and more. We are to be the light and preach the Gospel to them but not tied with them.
When it comes to marriage if you haven’t married yet then don’t marry an unbeliever. Deuteronomy 7:3-4 – Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. We once ministered to a Christian couple who were being tormented by demons. During their deliverance, we came across false religion spirits that entered them because they attended their friend’s Muslim wedding. This event gave these spirits access due to their soul tie with their unbelieving friends.
My main purpose in this writing is to warn Christians of friendships and relationships outside of marriage. If you are already married then I would lead you to Paul’s’ writings in 1 Corinthians 7:12 But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her. 13 And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. 15 But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace. 16 For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?
Ephesians 5:3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; 4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not be partakers with them. Some people may think, “Well I don’t do the things that they do, so I am ok”. The bigger problem is the soul ties made with these people. Soul ties are developed through emotions. These ties allow the devil to send weapons, witchcraft, curses, and demons to you.
Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, unless they are agreed? Think about this scripture when it comes to your business dealings. Do you own a business and have employees? Do you have a business partner? Are these people unbelievers? If so, then is it not difficult to walk together forward in your business as well. Your business success could be hindered right now due to you having relationships that aren’t aligned spiritually with Christ. We recently ministered to a woman who owns a hair salon. She has an independent contractor renting space from her who does tarot cards. When we ministered deliverance to her we had to remove spirits from this woman and witchcraft off of her that came from this person.
1 Thessalonians 5: 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil. You need discernment in your daily walk. Ask God for discernment daily in your walk. Ask Him to show you what areas you are yoked where you shouldn’t be.
2 Corinthians 6:15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you[f are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
“I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.”
17 Therefore “Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”
18 “I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the Lord Almighty.”
I was once asked to pray about a man, his wife, and daughter who were doing deliverance ministry. They were fairly new but had been helping people for several months if not longer. The man described to me that they were being harassed by demons. Their bed would shake at night, finances were under attack and physical illnesses. When I prayed to the Lord, He spoke to me soul ties. I then emailed the man that he needed to cut soul ties to all of the people he had and was ministering to. The man emailed me back and told me the Lord spoke to him as he read my email and he heard, “You are only to be tied to ME and your wife”. Jesus is all that we should be tied to and our spouse. The enemy uses these ties to attack you. That is why God warned us in the scriptures.
God Bless you in Jesus mighty name!
