Training is something a soldier does daily. Sounds pretty basic but lets think about it for a minute pertaining to being in the Army of God.
Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.
Here we read that we are to TRAIN for godliness. Godliness is not something that we are just naturally equipped for to do, in fact our flesh is pretty much wants to do the opposite. We must train our spirits like an athlete trains the body. You can’t just wake up one day and be a professional athlete, it can take years of training and dedication.
What is the biblical meaning of godliness? Conforming to the laws and wishes of God; devout; pious. coming from God; divine.
We can’t know the desires of God unless we first seek them out in His word. So part of training is studying the Word of God regularly, second would be applying the Word of God to your daily life.
Milk and Meat
In the Army of God you must move from milk to meat. The days are dark and we need maturity in the body of Christ. We can no longer sit on the sidelines or pews waiting to hear an encouraging word and then just go on our way. Christians are in a spiritual war that is playing out in the physical all around us. The enemy is attacking on all fronts right now. Through isolating us with fears of an “unseen enemy” and now violence and lawlessness abounding in many cities. The enemy also has been using the airwaves to spread his evil frequency of fear and dread. This requires our training to be more sophisticated and intense. Early on in your Christian walk you were fed milk but what does it mean to be fed meat?
About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. Hebrews 5:11-14
Being fed meat means to have your powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you discernment every morning. It’s impossible to fight the enemy if you don’t know who he is or what his strategy is against us. I listened to an excellent teaching recently while driving about authority. The church have been granted authority against all the powers of the enemy, we’ve been handed the keys of the kingdom of heaven. This means we are on the offense not the defense. The enemy should be running from us while we take back territory that he has stolen.
7 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock[a] I will build my church, and the gates of hell[b] shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed[c] in heaven.” Matthew 16:17-19
Keep your armor on
A good soldier wears armor on the front lines of war. Every day put your armor on. there are numerous teachings concerning this spiritual armor. Mature soldiers understand how important every part of their uniform is. You can learn more about being an equipped soldier here.
As you get more involved with any ministry particularly training others on how to do warfare be prepared. The enemy automatically dispatches his own soldiers against you. Remember we are at war. The enemy will fight you and he doesn’t care to fight fair. His motivation is pure evil and he comes to kill steal and destroy. We the people of God are his enemy because we are God’s chosen children and he wants to destroy us. So it’s necessary to first understand your authority, practice holiness, train, train and then train some more. Every soldier in the army of God is needed. God Bless you and I look forward to seeing you on the front line.
