Discouragement

Discouragement is probably the one of the greatest attacks Satan can bring on a believer’s life. He uses discouragement to his advantage because it is extremely powerful. It can cause people to quit on something that God has told them to do, it can cause sickness, it can lead to sin, it can lead to atheism, it can lead to bad decision making, and more. Don’t let disappointment stop you.

Stop trusting your situation God is in control not your situation.  You must believe in the promises of God. Jesus said, don’t let your hearts be troubled.  Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Joshua 1:9 Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 Corinthians 5:7 For we live by faith, not by sight.  Watch what your eyes are focusing on. Colossians 3:2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Proverbs 4:25 Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Romans 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

discouragement man

Discouragement can lead to sin and going astray. 1 Peter 5:7-8 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Ephesians 4:27 and do not give the devil an opportunity to work.

iscouragement makes it harder for you to believe God and His promises. Exodus 6:8-9 And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the LORD. Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and harsh labor.

God understands your discouragement. Joshua 1:8 This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to recite it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do.

Many times discouragement is because of a set back in our life, a delay, or difficulty in a certain goal. Romans 15:4-5 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had. Many times discouragement is because of a set back in our life, a delay, or difficulty in a certain goal. Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Psalm 37:7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!

Trust in the Lord when success seems different than what you imagined. Matthew 11:2-4 When John, who was in prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples to ask him, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see.”

Here are a couple more things that can cause discouragement. Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

When you backslide from your prayer life discouragement may enter. Psalm 46:10-11 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Understand that discouragement is also a demon and may need to be cast out of you. It may be in you due to past heart break. Contact us today for help. I want to remind you to watch out for things that can increase discouragement such as a lack of sleep. Go to bed on time. Also, make sure that you are eating right.
