Do Demons Exist? How do we know?

I have been involved in deliverance ministry for several years and have ministered alongside my husband as well as at times by my self to numerous people. I have learned that you never stop learning about the enemy, and how he works in the lives of every single person on earth. It is the Holy Spirit that must give you discernment on how to battle the enemy of our souls. In my experience, most people do not want to know about demons. They do not want to even know that they may exist. This is a problem in the arena of spiritual warfare. You can not fight an enemy that you do not believe exists. What does the Holy Bible say about demons? Both the old and new testaments talk extensively about demons and their activities. In the new testament, Jesus was confronting and casting out demons. Jesus stated that those that believe in Him would also do the same things that He did, so we are told as a commandment to cast out demons.

Why don’t people believe demons exist?

2 Corinthians 4:4

4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

People do not believe that demons exist because the god of this world has blinded, blocked hidden the truth in the minds of unbelievers. Scripture tells us plainly that the god of this world is Satan. He is roaming the world even now, seeking whom he can devour. To understand and battle the enemy you have to at the very least first acknowledge that he exists. However, in the above scripture, we see that the enemy has influenced the minds of unbelievers. In my opinion, this is strategic to keep people bound and unable to walk in freedom.

2 Corinthians:10-11 Now whom you forgive anything, I also forgive. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ, lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.

We are told by the apostle Paul in the above scripture that we are not to be ignorant of the devices of Satan. The evil one definitely seeks to take advantage of us. Could our unforgiveness make us vulnerable to this? The first part of this scripture states to forgive! Perhaps unforgiveness adds to our being ignorant of how the devil works. Unforgiveness could then be explained as a weapon of the enemy, and if we choose to walk in it out of our own free will we are falling into the enemy’s devices.

It is truly sad that so many of God’s children remain in bondage because they don’t acknowledge the enemy of their souls and therefore refuse to fight. It takes a strong constitution to understand that we truly live in a fallen world that is for a short while being run by Satan!

Understand The Battle

Ephesians 6:11 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God, so that you can make your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.…

Romans 13:12 The night is nearly over; the day has drawn near. So let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

Ephesians 4:14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed about by the waves and carried around by every wind of teaching and by the clever cunning of men in their deceitful scheming.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Jesus did not leave us alone, and He will never forsake us! He told us clearly that He would be with us till the end of this age. (this present time we are in) He gives us His Spirit to stand with us and fight for us. Our eyes are to stay focused on Jesus. It’s the only way to stand in the battle. He alone gives us everything to sustain us and overcome when we find ourselves in the middle of a battle with Satan. Dear brothers and sisters stand and fight! Be bold as a lion, fight as if your lives depend on it and the lives of your loved ones.

Proverbs 28:1 The wicked flee when no one pursues, But the righteous are bold as a lion.
